INSTRUCTIONS
The Hold Fast is specifically designed to impose multiple forces onto a object in transit. The key features is that this device acts as a holding point for oddly-placed strapping, and then acts structurally to apply forces in all the X, Y, Z planes (lateral and downward) to hold cargo in a static position and prevent shifting, slipping, and other movement.
The Hold Fast is meant to secure cargo in the bed of a vehicle, within a trailer, or another hold. It has many uses as described below. Uses outside those described herein would be outside the intended use, and would therefore be considered misused. As uses arise, and are suggested, this site will be updated after appropriate testing and has been performed. Suggestions are welcome and will be evaluated for feasibility.
These instructions are specifically tailored to the 1" version of The Hold Fast. Other versions will be addressed elsewhere.
Note:
The Hold Fast will not work properly unless the securing straps are snapped a minimum of two (2) times by the user and it is exclaimed out loud, "That ain't going anywhere."
SPECIFICATIONS
The following are the specifications and standards in which The Hold fast complies:

-
Working load limit (WLL): 475#
-
Tested breaking strength: 1,425#
-
Material: Polyester webbing, steel rings, steel cam buckles.
-
The ratings listed apply loop-to-loop. The inner webbing does not carry a rating as it is considered non-structural.
-
The Hold Fast should not be used if any of the following conditions exist:
-
A rated capacity tag is missing or illegible.
-
Broken or worn threads in the stitch patterns.
-
Knots in any part of the apparatus.
-
Any evidence of heat or chemical damage, including melting or charring.
-
Metal fittings that are cracked, deformed, witted, corroded or excessively worn.
-
Any other visible damage which causes doubt as to the sling strength.
-
DISCLAIMERS
-
The Hold fast should NOT to be used in any of the following applications.
-
Slinging or lifting of objects.
-
Linking to extend strapping devices.
-
Used in aviation or aircraft cargo bays.
-
Securing objects that exceed the working load.
-
Towing or in vehicular recovery.
-
-
Attachment straps should carry a rating not less than the rating of The Hold Fast.
-
Strapping devices should extend from The Hold Fast to factory-mounted, or specifically-listed, and properly installed, anchoring points within the cargo bay. These points are rated for the forces and dynamics applied when vehicle is in motion. Anchoring strapping devices to wheel wells, hitch receivers, tailgates, bumpers, and similar non-rated accessories on the vehicle will compromise safety due to unknown flexure, changes in application angles, and potential damage due to rubbing or friction.
-
Ensure that the cargo is located in the bay such that it does not impede the driver's visibility. If cargo does interfere with standard mirrors or blind spots, the driver should be notified to the situation. If driver is uncomfortable, the Hold Fast should be removed and the cargo unloaded until a more appropriate vehicle can be implemented.
-
Bungee cords are not an approved means to secure cargo between The Hold Fast and vehicular anchoring points (with the exception of securing bundles).

Walther Innovations, LLC., (distributor) and DD Sling & Supply, Inc., (manufacturer) shall not be responsible for damage or injury due to misuse, negligence, or irresponsibility in applying The Hold Fast device to cargo, and throughout the process of travel. This includes traffic infractions, accidents, and carelessness while in transport.
SYNTHETIC TIE DOWN SAFETY BULLETIN

Securing a Cube
When securing a large, box-shaped item there are many considerations. Height, weight, proximity to anchoring points, etc. The example used here is for a full-size refrigerator:
-
For a tall object (over 4'-0" tall), it is recommended to use two Hold Fast devices. For standard refrigerators, the center of gravity is lower and two Hold Fast devices are sufficient. If the object is heavier or more irregular (oblong or with a higher center of gravity), four (4) Hold Fast devices will be required.
-
Place one Hold fast on two opposing corner of the cargo.
-
Use standard (and appropriately rated) strapping devices to anchor the item to the vehicle. Each of these strapping devices will attach to one of the three corner loops on The Hold Fast and extend to the vehicular-mounted anchoring points. Standard strapping devices include, but are not limited to, ratcheting straps, lashing straps, chain, or rope.
-
Ensure the inner webbing of the Hold Fast has been loosened so the burden of the forces bear on the outer webbing.
-
Tighten the strapping devices incrementally until the cargo is secured.
-
After embarking on the journey, check tightness of the strapping devices incrementally per manufacturer's recommendations. Straps tend to loosen when in motion.
Securing a Tank / Bucket
When securing a cylindrically-shaped item there are a couple considerations. Shape, diameter, height, etc. The example used here is for a standard consumer propane tank, or a 5-gallon bucket:
-
The outer webbing is designed such that it fits around a standard propane tank (up to 30LB). The inner webbing is adjustable and can be tightened around the neck of the tank for safe transport. The outer webbing can be attached to vehicle anchoring points.
-
One ring can be attached directly to the anchor.
-
The other two rings can be combined to form a single attachment to an anchoring point.
To secure a bucket or water cooler, the inner webbing can be relaxed to lay across the top, then the outer webbing will wrap around the item and attach the same as the aforementioned tank.

Securing a Bundle
When hauling material in the back of a vehicle or trailer, many times those item extend beyond the rear fence, tailgate, etc. These items are typically placed on an incline to prevent sliding out the back; however, this doesn't prevent this material from shifting back and forth. A bundle is defined as a grouping of boards, piping, conduit, etc...
-
Collar the inner webbing around bundle.
-
Adjust inner webbing length adjusters to tighten around the bundle of material. This will prevent shifting side to side.
-
Attach at least two of the rings to anchoring points on the vehicle.
If cargo is not on an incline, but rather laying flat, then this device would not be effective to secure the load.
